Services

Consulting

Our horticulture professional will come to your property and get a feel for what you are looking to do with your garden and discuss new projects or installations. This discussion will include all planting plans to be created, and services to be performed. The consultation will be free for clients who pursue services from Green with Envy Lawn and Garden Care Ltd.

Planting Plans

Planting plans are performed to give the client a visual of what their garden will look like once the installation is complete, and which plants will be in their garden. This can be performed for annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees. This service is strongly recommended for anyone who is interested in having our horticulture professional install plant material as she has years of experience in design.

Custom Baskets & Container Gardening

If you are looking for customized plant selections for unique baskets and planters you have come to the right place.  With 7 years of experience designing unique one-of-a-kind hanging baskets and planters, you can be assured that your baskets and planters will look stunning.  We start with a free consultation with the client to get a feel for what they are looking for, and order the plants to be used from our greenhouse supplier.  The earlier in the year the plants are ordered, the better selection there is for getting those one-of-a-kind plants.  In the end of May or early June we will plant your planters, and hang your baskets for you.  We recommend that new potting soil is used every year for optimum results.  We can provide the potting soil at an additional cost if needed.  Instructions on how to care for your new plants will be given at the time of planting.

Planting

This service includes; ammending soil, rototilling, layout and planting of annuals, perennials, shrubs or trees, as well as watering recommendations. We encourage planting annuals in the first week of June, as there is a lower risk of plant loss due to frost.  For convenience, we can purchase the plants and soil ammendments for our clients.  This would be an additional fee to the services performed.

Bed Installation

A planting plan is not necessary for a bed installation, but we recommend it for larger areas to give the client a visual.  This will prepare the client for how their garden will look.  We will create the new planting area by removing unwanted plants, landscaping, adding soil ammendments, rototilling, purchasing plants, and planting.  Watering suggestions will be given as well.  This process can be a  new installation of a garden, or replacing an old existing garden.  The plant material and soil ammendments would be an additional fee to the services performed.

Hedge Trimming

This practice is performed to maintain uniform shape and height of a monostand of shrubs. This is limited to a few plant species. Hedge trimming involves taking a motorized hedge trimmer and shaping the hedge to however the client sees fit.  We will clean up all of the leaf litter removed and bag it.  This should be done monthly to keep people ‘Green with Envy’.

Pruning

Pruning is a practice that encourages new and healthy growth on trees and shrubs.  It involves removing dead, diseased, or damaged branches. Pruning also helps to control a plant that is vigorous and needs to be restrained.  This process also makes a tree or shrub more aesthetically pleasing.  If branches that are dead or damaged are left, insects and disease have an entry point into the plant which can injure or kill the plant.  We can prune trees up to 15′ tall, but are not equipped to prune larger trees.  We will dispose of the branches for the client which will be included in the price.

Mulching

Distributing mulch in planting areas suppresses weeds, and retains moisture in the soil.  There are many different types of mulch.  Rock and wood seem to be the most popular, although some people are interested in using recycled glass.  Wood mulch should be applied no more than 2” thick to avoid rodents from burrowing in your beds.  For convenience, we can purchase the mulch for our clients.  This would be an additional fee to the services performed.

Weeding/Edging/Deadheading

Weeding is important for all plant health.  When you have weeds in your garden they rob your desirable plants of water and nutrients.  If these weeds are left they will set seed, or spread via stolons or rhizomes and become invasive.  It is important to control these weeds for aesthetics, and your plants health.  Edging a garden makes it look manicured and keeps the lawn from creeping into the garden.  Some clients may have a brick or formed concrete edge, while other have plastic edging, or au natural.  Deadheading annuals and perennials is an important practice to encourage plants to bloom continuously.  We recommend doing this weekly to ensure optimal performance from annuals and perennials.  Deadheading is a process by which you snip or pinch off the old, shriveling flower head before it goes to seed.  If the seed head isn’t snipped or pinched, the plant puts all of its energy into producing seed rather than producing more flowers.

Fertilizing

Fertilizing your plants in the garden is optimal for their health.  We use a slow-release granular fertilizer for shrubs, and perennials twice annually.  For trees, we use tree food stakes that are driven into the ground at the drip-line once annually.  We do not recommend fertilizing trees, shrubs and perennials beyond September 1st, as it will encourage them to grow when they need to be preparing for dormancy.  Fertilizing annuals is a little bit different.  We use a liquid fertilizer that has equal potassium (plant sturdiness), phosphorus (plant roots), and nitrogen (new green growth).  This can be applied weekly or bi-weekly.  For baskets and pots with drainage, it can be applied 1-3 times weekly.  Fertilizing this frequently will ensure that your plants are healthy, dense, and flowering continuously.  We can also apply our liquid fertilizer to perennials a couple of times a year to give them a boost.

Pest Management

Insects, diseases, weeds, and rodents are an ongoing problem in any garden.  It seems like no matter how hard you try, your garden will encounter one of these pests at some time or another.  Before considering a control method, you should always consider how that method is going to affect the surrounding beneficial organism’s.  You should also look at the quantity of the pest, and how much it is affecting your plants.  We offer biological, mechanical, cultural, and chemical control methods.  Whether you have a slug problem, grass creeping in your gardens, or powdery mildew we have the solution for you.

Spring/Fall Clean up

In the spring, it is important to clean up unwanted leaf litter, and cut back perennials to encourage new growth.  In fall, some people prefer to clean up the leaf litter, and cut back perennials for aesthetics.  With some diseases and insect problems if the leaf litter is left around they will overwinter under the leaf litter.  If you leave the leaf litter in your beds it provides nutrients to the soil as it breaks down and decomposes.  With this service we will clean out your beds and bag it.  There will be an additional fee for disposal.
